Another Year in Paradise

life journeys Dec 11, 2024

Yesterday, Dec 11, was my birthday.

It comes around the same date every year.

There's no stopping it!

The other day I saw a Visa commercial during a football game. It showed a boy receiving his first Buffalo Bills jersey on the first day (Day 1) as a fan of the team. This is the synopsis of the commercial:

A little boy's NFL fan journey starts when his mother buys him a Buffalo Bills jersey. During a lifetime as a fan, through all the wins and the loses, he eventually grows up, gets married and shares his love of the Buffalo Bills with his entire family... including, eventually, his granddaughter. Every step of the way as an NFL fan, his VISA was everywhere he wanted to be.

So each momentous occasion in the commercial has a 'Day #' associated with it.

Day 1 - gets the jersey

Day 2 - at the game

Day 3290 - buys a jersey for his girl friend (leap of time)

Day 3291- gives the jersey to girl friend

Day 4879 - proposes to girl friend (another leap)

You get the idea.

Day 16,795 - buys a jersey for his grand daughter (last leap).

The commercial started me thinking about how many days I've been on this planet on this birthday.

Fun with large numbers:

35,740,800 seconds (yes, millions of seconds)

595,690 hours (whew - how many hours worked?)

24,820 days (are we tired yet?)

68 years

6.8 decades

And, while that seems like a long time, in the grand scheme of Life, the Universe and Everything, it's a zeptosecond.

I heard on the radio this morning that McCoy Tyner, a fabulous jazz pianist was also born on Dec 11, only many years before me, 1938 to be exact. The man could play! Read more about his legacy on https://mccoytyner.com/

Other notable people born on Dec 11:

  • Rita Moreno - 93
  • Brenda Lee - 80
  • Lynda Day George - 80
  • Teri Garr - 80 (Deceased this year)
  • Jermaine Jackson - 70
  • Nikki Sixx - 66
  • Ben Browder - 62

Happy birthday to all the December babies!

No matter what your age is, or how 'old' you feel - celebrate your life!

And, I'll celebrate with you!
